Consequences of...Not Wearing a Seat Belt

If you don't wear a seat belt while driving a car, you can be fined $30. If there are passengers under 16 years old in the car not wearing seat belts, the driver is held responsible and can be fined an additional $60 and get 3 points on their license. Any passengers in the vehicle who are over 16 years old and not wearing a seat belt can be individually fined.

Fines may be up to $80 per violation (actual cost varies by county). A teen driver is responsible for paying all tickets for passengers under age 18 who are caught not wearing a seat belt in the car.  Let’s see…$80 x myself and 3 friends…hmmm…that's $320!
